Andy Yoong is an award-winning Director of Photography (DP) and Drone Operator from Belfast, Northern Ireland, with over 25 years of experience in the film and video production industry. As the founder of Honcho Media, Andy has built a reputation for delivering visually compelling content across a range of genres, including documentaries, commercials, and drama.
After graduating from the University of Ulster in 2000, Andy’s passion for extreme sports led him to compete for Ireland in downhill mountain biking, where he placed third at the 2009 Masters Downhill Mountainbike World Championships. His involvement in the sport has allowed him to work with leading brands such as Kawasaki, Freecaster.tv (a pioneer of streaming video), Santa Cruz, and Specialized.
Over the years, Andy has worked with some of the world’s top advertising agencies and broadcasters, including Red Bull, IMG, Warner/Discovery, BBC, and HBO. His creative approach and technical expertise have earned him multiple commercial awards, along with a RTS Northern Ireland Award.
Today, Andy is recognized for his expertise as a DP, bringing not only a creative eye but also strong organizational skills and a broad technical skill set to every project. From pre-production planning to on-set execution, he combines his artistic vision with a focused approach to managing crews, gear, and locations. As a qualified drone pilot, he also incorporates aerial cinematography into his work, ensuring each project is crafted with precision and innovation. His ability to adapt to various styles and project demands makes him a versatile and sought-after DP in the industry.
