Apple’s Motion 5 makes it easy to create filters for FCPX so I decided to have a go myself.  I’ve made three so far:

  • Alpha channels, giving a retro look as default
  • Letterbox with offset and opacity control
  • Simple levels adjustment

If you’re interested you can download them below.  To make your own you need to create a new FCPX filter in Motion 5 and set up a rig.  The Motion manual should tell you all you need to know.

If you’ve found these filters useful please credit my web site in your production and remember to “Like” Honcho Media on facebook.

These FCPX filters are great. The letterbox offset is exactly what I needed and was missing from FCPX. Many thanks Andy

  2. Great job! LIke the letterbox effect a lot! One suggestion or wish: could you create a version that also supports “Panavision” 2.40:1 (as in 1920×800)? That would mean a great deal.

  3. DUDE! These are truly awesome. All so simple in operation, they will save me tons of time.

    Really appreciate it.

You should make a set similar to magic bullet and I’d buy it in a second.

    • no problem. I’m glad you found them of some use. I don’t think I’d ever have enough free time to make many more!

This is awesome! Thanks so much Andy! I found particularly amazing the alpha effect, was wondering if there is a way or how to go about constructing one that can change the highlights, midtones, and blacks independently? thanks!

  7. it’s the same of letterbox effect! what changes? it would be fantastic if u create a generator which can be placed up storyline.

  8. Thanks MATE! Hahaha!
    Really, thanks. Nice work.
    Cheers.

    Hi
Many thanx Mr Andy ! Exactly what I needed on FCP X. Next Step, find a lcd protection with crop marks for 6D.
    Thanx a lot

  11. After some of the updates, FCPX has got extensively better.

  12. Hi Andy,

Is it possible to use the X filters for vintage look for FCP 7? I don’t have X.

    Thank you,

    Laura

  13. Hi Andy, thanks for your plugins, especially for the letterbox. There is another format aspect ratio: 2.20:1 that would go great would it be possible to create you? Thank you very much!

    • Since I built these plugins Apple have included a letterbox filter built in to FCPX. Check that out and see if it has the aspect ratio you are looking for.
